Over 250 Sphagnum-associated microbiomes were sampled from peatlands across the U.S. (5 States, 17 Bog/Fen sites, 17 Sphagnum species) with the overall goal to elucidate the role of Sphagnum associated microbiomes in ecosystem functioning. Next-generation sequencing of the nitrogenase (nifH) and SSU rRNA amplicons were amplified with 515F/816R and IGK3/DVV primer pairs.
